Olympica

Modern Conquest and War Games

Olympica, subtitled The U.N. Raid on Mars 2206 A.D., is a science fiction microgame published by Metagaming Concepts in 1978 and designed by Lynn Willis. The game depicts a United Nations military force attempting to destroy a mind-control device called the Web Mind Generator, hidden inside the Martian crater Olympica, while the opposing player commands the device's automated defensive systems protecting it. It is played by two players, one directing the attacking UN raiders and the other directing the Martian defenses, and reviewers of the era also noted the game could be played solitaire against its defensive system rules. As a microgame, it was sold in a small plastic bag format typical of Metagaming's line, with a compact rulebook and counter sheet rather than the boxed components of larger wargames of the period.
