Oceans (board game)

Oceans is a nature-themed strategy board game designed by Dominic Crapuchettes with illustrations by Catherine Hamilton, published by North Star Games in 2020 after a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, and set within the same evolutionary card-game series as the studio's earlier game Evolution. On a turn a player spends a card from a four-card hand to evolve an existing aquatic species with a new trait, create an entirely new species, or migrate fish tokens, then feeds one of their species by foraging, preying on another species or drawing passively from the ocean. A reef board and a set of ocean zones stocked with fish tokens represent the ecosystem the species compete in, and as zones run dry the game enters a Cambrian Explosion phase that opens a Deep card deck payable in fish tokens. Play ends once every ocean zone has been emptied, and the player who has collected the most fish tokens across their species boards and personal score pile wins.
