NORAD (board game)
Board Wargame
NORAD, subtitled Strategic Games of Air Warfare, is a two player Cold War board wargame first published by Simulations Design Corporation in 1973, with a revised edition from Mishler Company in 1977. Designed by Dana Lombardy, Harry M. Mishler and Greg Thill, it simulates a hypothetical Soviet bomber attack on North America. One player commands Soviet bombers entering from the northern edge of the map while the other positions American air defenses across the continent in advance. Interceptions are resolved by both sides secretly revealing whether their unit is real or a decoy, with genuine contacts eliminating both units and decoys simply vanishing. Bombers that reach undefended cities attempt to complete their bombing run. The system avoids dice, relying on straightforward one to one elimination that reviewers have called low in complexity. The Soviet player wins by accumulating thirty or more points from successfully bombed cities, while the American player wins by holding that total below the threshold.
