Ninety-nine (addition card game)

Ninety-nine is a simple card game built around addition, reportedly popular among Romani communities, in which players take turns playing cards from their hand onto a running total while trying to avoid being the one who pushes that total over ninety-nine. Certain card ranks carry special effects on the count rather than a plain face value, and the game can be played by any number of people using one or more standard fifty-two card decks, with a typical hand lasting about fifteen minutes. Its light rules and reliance on mental arithmetic have made it a durable folk card game passed down informally rather than through commercial publication.
