Napoleon's Last Triumph

Modern Conquest and War Games

Napoleon's Last Triumph, subtitled An Operational Study of The Battle of Wagram, July 1809, is a two player board wargame published by Simulations Canada in 1982. It recreates the Battle of Wagram during the War of the Fifth Coalition, when Archduke Charles of Austria invaded Bavaria while Napoleon was occupied in Spain, and Napoleon countered by defeating the Austrian army and pursuing it across the Danube to Wagram, where a failed evening assault against entrenched Austrian positions led to the larger battle the design covers. One player commands the French army and the other the Austrian army across roughly 400 counters, choosing between a shorter four turn introductory scenario and a fuller nine turn scenario, with each game turn representing one hour of the battle and combat resolved through a system accounting for unit quality, formation and morale.
