Mad Gab

Mad Gab is a party word game published by Mattel that was first released in 1996. It is designed for between two and twelve players, who are divided into at least two competing teams. Each turn a team member is given a card bearing a short group of words, called a mondegreen, that are meaningless or nonsensical on their own but that sound like an entirely different, real word or phrase when read aloud quickly, such as a card reading These If Hill Wore sounding like the phrase The Civil War. Teammates must listen to their teammate sounding out the card and guess the hidden phrase within a two minute time limit, with cards ranging across several levels of difficulty from easy to hard. Because the puzzles must be decoded by ear rather than read silently, the game specifically tests players' ability to process spoken sound rather than written language. Teams score more points for solving puzzles more quickly, and a complete game typically takes about forty-five minutes to play.
