Laquet

Laquet is a historical Castilian tables game first described as a new game in the 13th century, recorded in the Libro de los Juegos, a compendium of games commissioned by King Alfonso X of Castile between 1251 and 1283. It may be an ancestor of the later game Jacquet. Unlike backgammon and most other tables games, Laquet uses an asymmetrical starting position in which only three of the board's four quadrants are used, and isolated single pieces cannot be captured or hit by an opponent, a rule that sets it apart from the wider tables family of race games for two players.
