La Famiglia: The Great Mafia War is a German board game designed by Maximilian Maria Thiel and published by Boardgame Atelier, which describes it as a conflict game set against the backdrop of a mafia feud in Sicily. It draws on the Sicilian mafia wars of the 1980s, and specifically on the campaign in which the Corleonesi, led by Salvatore Riina, asserted control over Cosa Nostra. That war caused the deaths of more than a thousand people between 1981 and 1983, and the game takes inspiration from the killing of rival clan heads by death squads. The game became controversial after distribution began in Italy in 2025, when Maria Falcone, sister of the murdered anti-mafia judge Giovanni Falcone, spoke out against it. It is a recent example of a board game whose real historical subject provoked public debate.
