Komikan is a hunt game from South America, best known in Chile, where it is also called Leoncito and Comican. The first written mention is by J. I. Molina in 1787, who took it for a kind of chess, but later writers concluded that it is a hunt game played among the Araucanian peoples from the nineteenth century. It is played on an Alquerque-type board with a triangular appendage added to one side. One player controls twelve dogs and the other a single lion. The dogs advance one space at a time and cannot capture, while the lion moves one space in any direction and can hop over a dog to capture it, continuing through several hops in one turn. The dogs win by trapping the lion so it cannot move, and the lion wins by capturing all the dogs. The game may be related to Komina, known from Inka times, and the Ludii record lists the Araucania ruleset.
