Kharbaga is a capturing board game from North Africa, related to Alquerque and played on a five by five grid of points. At the start every point is filled with the players' pieces except the middle one, and each side sets up on its own half of the board. Players alternate turns, moving a piece one step straight or diagonally forward, and a piece captures by hopping over an enemy piece. A piece that reaches the far rank is crowned a Mullah. The Mullah moves and captures in any direction and over any distance, landing anywhere beyond the captured piece if the path is clear. A piece that reaches the far rank in the middle of a capturing sequence is not promoted. The player who captures all the opposing pieces wins. The Ludii portal cites Hamidoun 1952 for the rules.
