Iron Kingdoms is a fantasy role-playing game published by Privateer Press, first released on July 1, 2004, blending high fantasy with steampunk technology in what the publisher calls Full Metal Fantasy. The setting itself began earlier, in 2001, through a line of adventure modules, and was later expanded through campaign guides, sourcebooks and extensive works of fiction that built out its world independent of any single rules edition. The original 2004 game used the d20 System shared with contemporary Dungeons & Dragons products, but Privateer Press redesigned it in 2012 around a custom six-sided-dice ruleset shared with the company's own Warmachine and Hordes miniature wargames, tying the role-playing line more closely to its sibling games. In 2025 Privateer Press ran a successful crowdfunding campaign for a new version of Iron Kingdoms built to work with the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, extending the setting to a new generation of rules more than two decades after its debut.
