Imajica (card game)

Collectible card game

Imajica is a collectible card game published by Harper Prism in 1997, based on Clive Barker's 1991 fantasy novel of the same name. The novel follows a painter drawn into a war across five interconnected worlds known as the Dominions, and the card game translates that setting into a competitive collectible format in the mould of games such as Magic: The Gathering, which had established the collectible card game category earlier in the decade. Publication by Harper Prism, the science fiction and fantasy imprint of HarperCollins rather than a dedicated game company, reflects a period in the mid-1990s when several book and media publishers licensed their properties into the booming collectible card game market. As a licensed tie-in product tied directly to Barker's novel, the game gave players a way to engage with the Imajica setting and its characters through deckbuilding and head-to-head play rather than prose.
