Hyena chase

Hyena chase, also called the Hyena game, is a traditional race game originating in North Africa, played on a spiral track of circles representing a caravan daily camps between an outer village circle and a central well at an oasis. Players roll a die to move mother pieces around the spiral, needing a six to enter the track and an exact roll to reach the well at the center before turning back toward the village. The first piece to complete the full return journey wins and releases a hyena piece that then races back at double speed, eliminating any opposing pieces it passes along the way. Traditionally the board was scratched into the ground or drawn on paper, with stick pieces used in place of a die.
