Heavy Gear Fighter

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Heavy Gear Fighter, subtitled Showdown in the Badlands, is a standalone dueling card game for two players set in the universe of the Heavy Gear science fiction setting. The Canadian publisher Dream Pod 9 released it in 1995, and it is no longer in print. Two Heavy Gears, the walking combat machines of that setting, fight in the area called the Badlands. The box contains 116 cards that are divided into attacks of different strengths, defenses and special effects, and both players draw from the same pile. No dice or paper are used, since a colour record sheet for each Gear tracks actions and damage with small counters. An Equipment and Weapons expansion of 72 cards appeared in 1995, and short promotional sets were given away in magazines.
