Guerilla (wargame)

Modern Conquest and War Games

Guerilla is a two-player tactical board wargame published in 1974 by the British company Maplay Games. It simulates the small-unit fighting on Borneo during the undeclared war between Indonesia and Malaysia in the early 1960s, after Indonesia objected to the creation of the Federation of Malaysia. One player commands Gurkha forces fighting for Malaysia and the other commands Indonesian forces. The box holds a paper hex map at 1.2 kilometres per hex, 555 uncut paper counters, a typewritten rules booklet and a small six-sided die. Beyond ordinary movement and combat, the rules cover secret victory conditions, ambushes, infiltration, hidden guerilla units, canoes, helicopters and helipads built in villages. Contemporary reviewers praised its flavour and the unusual setting.
