Grass (card game)

Race Games

Grass is a commercial card game first published in 1979 that recasts a well known racing game as a comedy about the cannabis trade. Its design is an expanded version of Mille Bornes, itself drawn from the older Touring, and many of its cards work almost exactly as their motoring ancestors do. Instead of building up road distance, players lay down peddle cards of different dollar values, keep the market open, and try to bank the largest take by the end of each round. Heat on cards stop a rival from selling until a matching heat off card removes the pressure, skim cards let a player lift money from the table, and protection, nirvana and paranoia cards add shields, bonuses and penalties. The game has been published by Euro Games and Ventura International and is sold in a hemp bag. Games magazine listed it among its top games of 1980, 1981 and 1982.
