Global War (board game)

Board Wargame

Global War, subtitled The War Against Germany and Japan 1939 to 45, is a grand strategic and economic board wargame designed by Jim Dunnigan with graphic design by Redmond A. Simonsen, published by Simulations Publications Inc, commonly known as SPI, in 1975. The game simulates the entire span of the Second World War across two connected world hex grid maps, with one of the two players controlling the Allied powers and the other controlling the Axis powers. Because it includes more than one thousand cardboard counters representing military and economic units, Global War is considered one of SPI's monster games, a category of unusually large and detailed wargame productions. Players can choose between a Standard Scenario covering the full conflict from fall 1939 to spring 1945 and a shorter High Water Mark Scenario beginning in summer 1942. On release the game reached second place on SPI's Top Ten Games list and remained on that list for roughly six months, reflecting strong interest among wargame hobbyists in a full global scale treatment of the war.
