Giuthi

Giuthi is a traditional game played by the Kikuyu and Embu peoples of Kenya, among others. It belongs to the Mancala family of games, in which counters are moved between holes. It is played with round counters, such as beans, and two rows of holes dug in the ground, so it needs no manufactured board or pieces. The game is documented in Elspeth Huxley's Red Strangers, in John Pratt's published Giuthi rules and in Wim Driedger's account of the game of Bao and mancala in East Africa.
