Ghostbusters (role-playing game)

Role-Playing Games

Ghostbusters, subtitled A Frightfully Cheerful Roleplaying Game, is a comedy role-playing game published by West End Games in 1986 and based on the 1984 film Ghostbusters. It is set in the film universe some time after the first movie, when the original team has formed Ghostbusters International and sells franchises worldwide, so most player characters run franchises in cities outside New York. The setting widens the opposition beyond ghosts and demons to vampires, extraterrestrials and time travelers. The rules are intentionally minimalist: players split twelve points among the four Traits Brains, Muscle, Moves and Cool, choose four Talents, and roll a pool of six-sided dice against a difficulty set by the Ghostmaster. A special Ghost Die brings bad luck, and Brownie Points represent accumulated good karma.
