Fuzzy Heroes

Miniatures wargame

Fuzzy Heroes is a miniatures wargame released in 1992 by Inner City Games Designs, designed by Christopher Clark and illustrated by Jon Niccum in an eighty-page softcover rulebook. Rather than using purpose-built miniatures, the game stages tactical combat between plush toys, called Fuzzy Heroes, and plastic action figures called Renegade Boy Toys, using whatever pieces a household already owns. The rules state that players should be able to find every component needed in their own house: six-sided dice, a ruler or tape measure, and terrain improvised from pillows and clothes. Combat is resolved by rolling three dice to determine whether an attack hits, followed by a further roll for damage if it does; a toy that is defeated falls asleep and becomes a terrain obstacle for the rest of the battle. Character generation is based on the physical attributes of the toy itself, and the system adds optional advanced rules covering vehicles, climbing, morale and special attacks, along with a included scenario called They've Kidnapped Santa that blends role-playing with miniatures combat. Reviewers praised the game as an accessible, affordable introduction to wargaming for families and children, while noting its appeal to adult hobbyists was more limited.
