Furry Pirates

Role-Playing Games

Furry Pirates is a pen-and-paper role-playing game published by Atlas Games, in which the player characters are anthropomorphic animals sailing as pirates. It is a historical fantasy set in a parallel universe that resembles seventeenth-century Earth, and it was written by Lise Breakey and designed by Bruce Thomas, with illustrations by Terrie Smith and Eric Hotz. Fantastic elements such as magic exist in the setting, but reviewers noticed the game mostly for its realistic rules for ships and ship-based combat and for its detailed campaign background. Players have a wide choice of animal races, including avian, lupine and ursine characters, and of the usual character classes such as fighter and thief. The game was reviewed in Casus Belli and in Realms of Fantasy.
