Fulda Gap (game)

Board wargame

Fulda Gap, subtitled The First Battle of the Next War, is a board wargame published by Simulations Publications Inc. in 1977 that simulates a hypothetical Warsaw Pact armored offensive through the Fulda Gap region of West Germany against NATO defenders, using operational-level military concepts current to the mid-1970s Cold War standoff in Europe. Designer Jim Dunnigan built its ruleset on the system he had developed for his earlier wargame Panzergruppe Guderian, adapting it to the modern mechanized warfare scenario rather than Panzergruppe Guderian's Second World War setting. The game proved a commercial success for SPI, reportedly climbing to the top of the publisher's own sales rankings even before its official release to the wider hobby market.
