Fredericksburg: The Union Repulsed

Modern Conquest and War Games

Fredericksburg: The Union Repulsed is a two-player board wargame published by Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) in 1975, designed by Joe Angiolillo with graphic design by Redmond A. Simonsen. It simulates the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg during the American Civil War, in which Union forces under Ambrose Burnside made a series of costly frontal assaults against entrenched Confederate positions on the high ground behind the town. One player commands the attacking Union army and the other the defending Confederate army, using a hex-based map and unit counters to resolve the historical assault-and-repulse pattern of the battle. The game first appeared as one of four titles bundled in the Blue & Gray II quadrigame collection, a common SPI packaging approach that let buyers get several linked Civil War battle simulations in one box, and it was later also made available as a standalone folio edition for players who wanted only this battle.
