Formula D (board game)

Race Games

Formula D is a board game that recreates open wheel formula racing such as Formula One, CART and IRL competition, designed by Eric Randall and Laurent Lavaur and originally published by Ludodelire in 1991 under the title Formula De. Rights to the game later passed to EuroGames and then to Asmodee Editions, and when Asmodee released its own edition the name was shortened to Formula D and the rules were updated to add street racing and import racing variants alongside the original formula racing rules. Players compete over one to three laps of a printed racetrack, aiming to cross the finish line first, using a set of seven specialized dice, four sided, six sided, eight sided, twelve sided, twenty sided and thirty sided, that represent the gears of each car. Rolling the die for the current gear determines how far a car moves, and players must plan gear shifts carefully to stop within marked corner zones, while a dashboard tracking system records accumulating engine and tire damage that can knock a car out of the race if it is not managed. The game ships with a large one hundred by seventy centimeter board, twenty plastic race cars and ten dashboard indicator cards.
