Five Tribes is a board game designed by Bruno Cathala in which four players move and manipulate five tribes of meeples to take control of the fictional Sultanate of Naqala. Unlike most worker placement games, the meeples are already on the board when play begins: thirty tiles are laid out in a five by six grid with three meeples on each. A turn takes all the meeples from one tile and places them one at a time on adjacent tiles that already hold meeples. Players bid for turn order, each starts with 50 gold coins whose total is hidden from the others, and the final score comes from gold, palm trees, palaces, djinns and controlled tiles. The rules are relatively simple while the strategy is deep. Three expansions add a sixth tribe of artisans, a thieves mini-expansion and a fifth player.
