Escape from Colditz

Modern Conquest and War Games

Escape from Colditz is a strategy board game first published in 1973 by Gibsons Games of London, simulating attempted escapes by Allied prisoners of war from the German Oflag IV-C prison camp at Colditz Castle during the Second World War. It was co-designed by Major Pat Reid, a former Colditz prisoner who had himself escaped from the camp, together with Bob Brechin and Brian Degas, giving the game a grounding in genuine wartime escape tactics. Its release coincided with a popular BBC television series set at Colditz, and the game went on to licensed editions published internationally, including a North American edition from Parker Brothers, supporting two to six players taking the roles of escaping prisoners and camp security staff.
