Dungeoneer (game)

Card Game

Dungeoneer is a non collectible card game designed by Thomas Denmark in which players build a dungeon from cards as they explore it, taking turns as the questing adventurer while other participants play monsters and traps against them. Rather than assembling a deck in advance, each player draws from a shared pool of location and encounter cards during play, so the dungeon's layout emerges organically from the group's choices rather than from pre game deckbuilding, a design departure from most competitive card games of its era. A player wins a session either by defeating every rival adventurer in combat or by completing three quests before being eliminated. The game originated as Tomb of the Lich Lord, published by small press Citizen Games, before Atlas Games acquired and expanded the line into a series of interconnected standalone sets that could be combined and traded between players. Intended for one to four players aged twelve and up, Dungeoneer emphasizes tactical card play and light role playing flavor drawn from traditional dungeon crawl fantasy, and it spawned several sequel boxes exploring different themed dungeons.
