Don't Break the Ice

Dexterity and Physical Skill Games

Don't Break the Ice is a children's tabletop game for two to four players aged three and up, first marketed by Schaper Toys in 1968. The set consists of plastic ice blocks, a stand and one miniature plastic hammer for each player. The stand is turned upside down and the blocks are pressed into its frame so that their shared compression holds them in place, and the stand is then turned upright. Players take turns tapping out blocks with their hammers. One block is larger than the rest and carries a plastic character, which varies by edition between Phillip the Penguin, a figure called Ice Man and a polar bear. The game ends when a player knocks out the block that makes the character fall through, and the player who took the turn before that one wins. Schaper sold the game to Milton Bradley, a Hasbro subsidiary, in 1986. It is still in production, with special editions released alongside the films Frozen in 2013 and Frozen II in 2019.
