Dixie (card game)
Collectible card game
Dixie is a collectible card game created by designer Tom Dalgliesh and published by Columbia Games in 1994, simulating famous American Civil War battles using dice and dedicated card decks. It is designed for two players, with a typical playing time of thirty to sixty minutes for ages twelve and up. The game features cards representing regiments, artillery batteries and generals from specific Civil War battles, with one player commanding the Union forces and the other leading the Confederate army; combat is resolved by rolling dice based on a card's Combat Value, ranging from one to four, with successful hits reducing an opponent's Combat Value score. Three battle-specific card sets were launched in 1994, covering First Bull Run, Shiloh and Gettysburg, with Shiloh the largest at four hundred cards. Designer Tom Dalgliesh, recognized at the 1992 Origins Awards for inventing block wargames in 1972, carried over the rules approach of his earlier block wargame designs into Dixie, with artwork by Eric Hotz emphasizing historically accurate uniforms and terrain for each battle.
