Diskwars
Miniature Wargame
Diskwars is a collectible fantasy tabletop miniature wargame designed primarily by Tom Jolly and Christian T. Petersen, with Tod Gelle also credited as a designer, and first published in 1999 by Fantasy Flight Games. Rather than the sculpted plastic or metal miniatures used by most tabletop wargames, Diskwars represents every unit as a printed cardboard disk, a choice that lowered the cost of entry and let the game borrow the collectible booster pack sales model already familiar from trading card games while keeping the tactical positioning and army building of traditional miniature wargaming. Two to eight players can take part, building armies from randomized disk assortments and deploying them across a battlefield in games that typically run around ninety minutes after five to ten minutes of setup. Fantasy Flight Games marketed it as a low chance, strategy and collecting focused title, aiming Diskwars at both established wargamers drawn to its tactical depth and collectible card game players drawn to its randomized disk packs.
