Dara is a two-player abstract strategy board game played in several countries of West Africa. In Nigeria it is played by the Dakarkari people, in Niger it is popular among the Zarma, who call it dili, and it is also played in Burkina Faso. In Hausa, spoken in Niger and Nigeria, the game is called doki, which means horse. It belongs to the family of alignment games and is related to tic-tac-toe, though it is far more complex. It is also known as derrah, and it closely resembles the games Wali and Dama Tuareg. The source says only that it was invented in the 19th century or earlier.
