Camelot (board game)

Displacement and Capture Games

Camelot is a race and capture board game that the Ludii record describes as a chess variant invented by George Parker in the late nineteenth century and published by Parker Brothers. The record also lists the names Chivalry and Inside Moves for it and gives a creation date of 1930. A player wins by being the first to occupy the opponent's castle with two of his or her own pieces, or by capturing all of the opponent's pieces while keeping two or more. Knights and pawns can step one space in any direction, canter over an adjacent friendly piece to the empty space beyond, or jump an adjacent enemy piece and remove it, as in checkers, with capturing obligatory whenever it is possible. Only the knight has a further option, the knight's charge, which combines a canter followed by a jump in a single move.
