Banka bäver, which means thumping beaver, is a Swedish round game played with a pack of playing cards. It is regarded as a development of beggar my neighbour, the children's card game, with elements taken from two other English children's card games, Slapjack and Snap. The whole pack is dealt so that every player holds the same number of cards, with any excess placed in a central pile. Players take turns turning over their top card onto the centre pile, and an ace or court card obliges the next player to lay down a set number of cards: one for a jack, two for a queen, three for a king and four for an ace. A player can also win the centre pile by being first to slap it when two cards of equal value follow one another, or when the last card matches the bottom card shown at the deal. The winner is the player who ends up with all the cards. The source also records that the Swedish skier Stina Nilsson said she trained for speed by playing it.
