War in the Pacific (board game)

Board wargame

War in the Pacific: The Campaign Against Imperial Japan, 1941-45 is a board wargame designed by Edward Curran, Jim Dunnigan, Irad B. Hardy and Tom Walczyk, and published by Simulations Publications Inc. in 1978. It is a two-player strategic simulation of the Pacific campaign of the Second World War, rated at one hundred on the publisher's complexity scale, and it comes with a fifty six page rulebook, three thousand two hundred die-cut counters and seven maps totaling eighty eight by one hundred two inches, with graphic design by Redmond A. Simonsen. Gameplay emphasizes logistics and fog-of-war mechanics, with players controlling either Japanese or Allied forces and supply points and bases forming the core strategic element; the game incorporates an innovative partial-intelligence system in which aircraft observations of enemy task forces produce reports of varying accuracy, a feature distinguishing it from other strategic games of its era. The game offers five scenarios ranging from eight to twenty six turns, playable individually or combined into a full campaign game requiring several hundred hours.
