Stuss

Stuss, also known as Jewish faro, is a card game descended from the banking game faro. Unlike traditional faro, in which cards are dealt from a mechanical shoe, Stuss is dealt directly from the dealer's hand, and the house wins the entire stake whenever two equal cards are drawn together rather than only half, which substantially increases the advantage held by the dealer over the other players. The game was played widely in house games, back rooms and saloons, and it became especially popular in the ethnic immigrant neighborhoods of New York City and Chicago in the closing years of the nineteenth century, remaining in play through the First World War. As a banking game it pits every other player against a single dealer rather than players against each other directly.
