Kansas Lottery

The Kansas Lottery is a government organization operated by the state of Kansas and is a charter member of the Multi-State Lottery Association, the compact of state lotteries that runs shared jackpot games across the United States. It was established in 1987, after the Kansas Legislature passed the Kansas Lottery Act following a November 1986 constitutional amendment that voters approved by a sixty-four percent margin. Like other state lotteries formed in this era, its stated purpose was to create a new dedicated public revenue stream without raising general taxes, funding it instead through the voluntary purchase of instant scratch tickets and drawn number games. As a charter MUSL member since the association's founding, Kansas has offered multi-state games alongside its own in-state draw and instant products.
