Blind hookey

Blind hookey is a simple banking card game of chance also known as Dutch bank, banker and broker, or honest John. It originated in Germany, where it is known as Häufeln, Bockspiel or Päckchen wenden, with written records going back to 1773 and the English name appearing by 1824. One player acts as banker while the others act as punters, betting on face down piles of cards laid out on the table, one of which the banker keeps for themselves. The winner is decided by comparing the bottom card of each pile, and because matching ranks favor the banker, the house holds an edge of about 5.9 percent with a 52 card deck, rising to about 9.7 percent with a 32 card deck.
