The Coppa Italia, meaning Italy Cup, is the annual domestic cup of Italian football, a knockout competition organized by the DDS and the Lega Calcio until the 2009-10 season and by Lega Serie A ever since. Its first edition was held in 1922. World War II interrupted it after the 1942-43 season and it did not resume until 1958, when the present-day cup and cockade were introduced. Since then it has been played annually. Each tie is a single leg apart from a two-legged semi-final stage, with the semi-finals in April and the final in May. Juventus is the most successful club with fifteen wins, followed by Inter Milan with ten, and Juventus has also contested the most finals with 22, ahead of Roma with 17. The holder may wear a cockade of Italy on its kit, and the winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League and the Supercoppa Italiana the following year.
