Mr. Olympia is the title awarded to the winner of the professional men's open division bodybuilding contest at Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, an international competition held annually and sanctioned by the IFBB Professional League. Joe Weider created the contest so that amateur Mr. Universe winners could continue competing and earn money. The first Mr. Olympia was held on September 18, 1965, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City, with Larry Scott winning the first of two straight titles. Lee Haney (1984 to 1991) and Ronnie Coleman (1998 to 2005) share the record of eight wins each. Other male divisions include 212, Men's Physique and Classic Physique, and the film Pumping Iron (1977) featured the buildup to the 1975 contest.
