Randy Johnson

Bat-and-Ball Sports

Randy Johnson, nicknamed The Big Unit, was an American left-handed pitcher who played 22 major league seasons between 1988 and 2009 for the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. Born on 10 September 1963 in Walnut Creek, California, he stood 6 feet 10 inches and was the tallest player in big league history when he debuted. After early control problems, a 1992 meeting with Nolan Ryan helped him become one of the most dominant pitchers of his era. He won five Cy Young Awards, four of them in a row with Arizona from 1999 to 2002, shared the 2001 World Series most valuable player honor with Curt Schilling, threw a no-hitter in 1990, led his league in strikeouts nine times and won his 300th game with the Giants. He entered the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
