Chess Olympiad

Mind Sport World Championships

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE, the World Chess Federation, organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Because it is contested by national teams rather than by individual players, it differs from the individual world championship, and each country is represented by a squad instead of a single competitor. The host nation is selected by FIDE for each edition, so the event moves between countries.
