Alfreð Finnbogason, born on 1 February 1989 in Grindavík, is an Icelandic former professional footballer who played as a striker and later became sports director of the Norwegian club Rosenborg. He came through the youth teams of Ungmennafélag Grindavíkur and spent two years of his childhood in Edinburgh, where he played for the boys club Hutchison Vale. At Heerenveen he was the Dutch Eredivisie top scorer in the 2013-14 season with 29 goals, a tally topped in Europe's top leagues only by Luis Suárez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jonathan Soriano that season. He made his debut for the Iceland national team against the Faroe Islands in 2010 and earned 72 caps, scoring 18 goals. He was part of Iceland's squad at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where his equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Argentina made him the first Icelander to score a goal at a World Cup.
