Evander Holyfield is an American former professional boxer, born in 1962, who became the only four time world heavyweight champion in boxing history after also holding the undisputed cruiserweight championship in the late 1980s. He finished his career with a record of 44 wins, 10 losses, 2 draws and 1 no contest across 57 professional fights, and was the first boxer to win undisputed titles in two weight classes during boxing's three-belt era. He is best known for his two fights with Mike Tyson, defeating Tyson by eleventh round technical knockout in 1996 and winning their 1997 rematch by disqualification after Tyson bit his ear, a bout remembered as the Bite Fight.

Competition Category FAQs
Why did Evander Holyfield only win bronze at the 1984 Olympics?
A disqualification in the semi-final for a purported late hit left him with bronze.
Holyfield competed as a light-heavyweight in 1984. In the semi-final against New Zealander Kevin Barry he was controlling the fight, and near the end of the second round Holyfield hammered Barry's ribs and floored him. The referee, a Yugoslav named Gligorije Novicic, then disqualified Holyfield for a purported late hit, saying he had told him to break before the punch. Olympedia says films did seem to confirm the call, but that even Barry told Holyfield he had won the fight fair and square. The disqualification left Holyfield with a controversial bronze medal.
