FAQs

What did Ben Ainslie do after he stopped competing at the Olympic Games?

He moved to the America's Cup after 2012 and helped Oracle win it in 2013.

Ben Ainslie retired from Olympic competition after 2012 and concentrated on the America's Cup. Olympedia says he is remembered above all for the 2013 America's Cup, when he helped lead Oracle to a comeback from 8-1 down in a best-of-17 series to win for Team USA. A few months before that comeback he was knighted, which he described as the proudest moment of his life.

In which classes did Ben Ainslie win his Olympic medals?

Silver in the Laser in 1996 and golds in one-person dinghies from 2000 to 2012.

Ben Ainslie won a silver medal in the Laser class at the 1996 Olympic Games. He then won three consecutive titles in the one-person dinghy, from 2000 to 2008, and a fourth gold in the one-person heavyweight dinghy in 2012. That made four golds and one silver, and he is the only person to win medals at five consecutive Games.
