FAQs

Did Steffi Graf win Olympic medals as well as Grand Slam titles?

Graf won Olympic singles gold in 1988 and doubles bronze at the same Games.

Yes. Graf won the Olympic tennis title in 1988 at Seoul, the year she also took all four Grand Slam singles titles, which the media called a golden slam. In the same Games she won the bronze medal in women's doubles with Claudia Kohde-Kilsch. She had also won the 1984 Olympic title when tennis was only a demonstration sport, and that win is not counted as a medal. In 1992 she reached the singles final as the heavy favourite but was upset by the American teenager Jennifer Capriati. Olympedia counts her total as one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
