Why was Charles Barkley called the Round Mound of Rebound?
His size and rebounding at Auburn earned him the nickname.
The nickname dates from his college years at Auburn University. Barkley struggled to control his weight, yet he excelled as a player and led the Southeastern Conference in rebounding each year. He played center even though he was shorter than the average center, and fans enjoyed watching him grab a defensive rebound and dribble the length of the court for a two-handed dunk. His physical size and skills ultimately earned him the nickname The Round Mound of Rebound.
