Alessandro Matri is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a striker. He was born on 19 August 1984 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, a comune in Lombardy about thirty kilometres from Milan, and began his career at AC Milan, making his senior debut on 24 May 2003 in a match against Piacenza. He then spent several years away from Milan on loan and in shared ownership, with spells at Prato, Lumezzane and Rimini before joining Cagliari in 2007, where he became the club's leading league scorer. In January 2011 he moved to Juventus on loan and later won the 2011-12 Serie A title with the club under Antonio Conte, also winning the 2012 Supercoppa Italiana and scoring in the UEFA Champions League. He later played on loan for Fiorentina and Genoa. Matri earned his first call-up to the Italy national team in February 2011 and made his international debut against Ukraine in March of that year.
