FAQs

Why did Svetlana Khorkina have so many gymnastics moves named after her?

She was unusually tall for gymnastics and created new moves to suit her height; eight bear her name.

Olympedia notes that Khorkina stood 1.65 metres tall, unusually tall for her sport, so she had to create a lot of new moves to suit her height and exploit her strengths. It credits her with eight moves named after her in the Artistic Gymnastics Code of Points, including at least one on each apparatus, which is more than any other gymnast, male or female.
