Jake LaMotta (10 July 1922 to 19 September 2017), born Giacobbe LaMotta, was an American professional boxer who held the world middleweight championship between 1949 and 1951. Known as the Bronx Bull and Raging Bull, he fought as a relentless swarmer and slugger who stalked opponents and brawled on the inside, and he was reputed to have one of the greatest chins in boxing history because of the punishment he could absorb. His six-fight rivalry with Sugar Ray Robinson was among the most celebrated in the sport; he won only one of those bouts although he knocked Robinson down several times. He was managed by his brother Joey, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in its inaugural 1990 class, and his autobiography became the 1980 Martin Scorsese film Raging Bull.
