Ten-Pin Bowling

Precision Sports

Ten-pin bowling is a precision sport in which players roll a ball down a wooden or synthetic lane to knock down ten pins arranged in a triangular formation, with score determined by pins knocked down across a set number of frames. The modern standardized form developed in the United States in the early 20th century, building on older bowling and skittles traditions brought by European immigrants. The sport is governed internationally by the World Bowling federation and, while it has been a demonstration event at past Olympics, is not part of the standard Olympic program.
